From Pookalam to Payasam: Onam, the Festival of Togetherness
Onam, the vibrant harvest festival of Kerala, brought a wave of culture, color, and community spirit into our campus this year. As B.Ed students, it wasn’t just a celebration—it was a living lesson in unity, tradition, and the joy of sharing.
The day began with the creation of beautiful Pookalams (floral rangolis), as teams worked together to design intricate patterns using fresh flowers. The aroma of petals and the bright colors filled the air with festive energy. It wasn’t about competition—it was about creativity and collaboration, and seeing everyone contribute their ideas and effort was truly heartwarming.
Dressed in traditional attire, with women in elegant kasavu sarees and men in mundus, the atmosphere felt straight out of a postcard. The campus echoed with laughter, music, and the spirit of celebration.
One of the highlights of the day was the Onam Sadhya—a grand feast served on banana leaves, consisting of a variety of vegetarian dishes and the much-loved payasam. Sharing this meal together reminded us that Onam is as much about gratitude and unity as it is about flavor and festivity.
Games and other fun activities kept the energy high and the smiles wide. Seniors and juniors came together like family, making the day even more special.
Onam celebrates the return of the noble King Mahabali, symbolizing equality, prosperity, and joy. Through our celebration, we truly felt those values come to life. More than just a cultural event, Onam brought us closer—as classmates, as future educators, and as a community.
As the day ended, we carried home not just the memories of music and flowers, but the deeper message of Onam—that of togetherness, kindness, and shared happiness.
Happy Onam! 🌾✨
