From Pookalam to Payasam: Onam, the Festival of Togetherness

Onam, the vibrant harvest festival of Kerala, brought a wave of culture, color, and community spirit into our campus this year. As B.Ed students, it wasn’t just a celebration—it was a living lesson in unity, tradition, and the joy of sharing. The day began with the creation of beautiful Pookalams (floral rangolis), as teams worked together to design intricate patterns using fresh flowers.  Our much-awaited field trip turned out to be a delightful and enriching experience, perfectly planned with the right mix of relaxation, learning, and fun. The journey began at the picturesque Kovalam Beach , where the cool sea breeze, golden sands, and soothing waves instantly lifted our spirits. We enjoyed walking along the shoreline, taking photos, playing beach games, and simply embracing the beauty of nature. It was a refreshing start that helped us unwind and bond with our classmates outside the classroom setting. Next, we visited the iconic Kuthiramalika Palace , a treasure trove of Kerala’s royal history. The palace's unique architecture, with its intricately carved wooden ceilings and horse-shaped brackets, was truly mesmerizing. We were guided through the palace rooms filled with ancient artifacts, paintings, and royal belongings — each telling a story of the past. It was both educational and inspiring, giving us a deeper appreciation of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. ...

The workshop focused on essential life skills such as communication, empathy, self-awareness, decision-making, time management, and emotional intelligence — all of which are crucial for aspiring teachers. What made the session truly impactful was Mr. Das’s ability to connect theory with real-life examples, making every concept relatable and memorable. His interactive approach kept the entire audience engaged. Through group activities, role plays, and thought-provoking discussions, we were not just passive listeners but active participants. Each activity challenged us to reflect on our strengths, confront our limitations, and work on becoming more confident, empathetic, and self-aware individuals. One of the most p...
